Addendum to Garbage Discussion (email sent to neighbors from Shawn posted below)

I just had a call with a supervisor at Waste Management and I now have a much better understanding of the WM billing situation.

The very newest customers with WM are likely paying the very least- possibly as low as $26 per can per month.   (the 2nd can would possibly be as low as $18) per can per month.

The very oldest customer (who has never called WM and renegotiated their bill) could be paying as high as $80 per can.

Also billing monthly vs qtrly impacts price… and in general it sounds like the cost of fuel and market conditions on the day you sign up will impact the price you were set up at.

– And probably since most people inherited cans from the previous occupant…it is likely that some people will have 2 or 3 cans but are only being billed for 1.

The gist of the WM billing system is… new customers pay the lowest rate and then in as quickly as 6 months they start to see increases of up to 15% added to their bill.

As individual customers if you were to call in every time you see an increase and (request) that they match their current lowest rate they would then lower your bill back down to the lower rate.

(that is why 90% of the customers in pole patch are paying more than $40 per can)

@ John… please forward this entire email including all of my notes for transparency to the entire distribution list…  along with a text that directs everyone to the email.

Pole Patch Neighbors I’m PAUSING the transition from WM to Republic.   If you have already cancelled with WM.  Call them back and “UN-CANCEL”. and while you are on the phone with them request that they reduce your rate to the lowest rate.

You can call the customer retention department (I talked to Frank). directly at 1-855-782-6444

While we are in a holding pattern… I have started HOA group negotiations with WM & Republic… and will send out another notice when I feel like I have all the information & the best deal for everyone.

My early information is that Republic will be $32 for the first can and maybe a bit less for the 2nd… and WM will likely be substantially less. (With the whole neighborhood being billed through the HOA)

I’m guessing this will mean we will have a price locked in for a period of time & every time the contract expires someone on the board will reach out to our “salesperson” and make sure we are at the lowest rate available before we renew.

I apologize for not getting involved sooner and learning all this information… At our meeting in March all the information seemed pretty straightforward and switching to republic seemed like the logical next step.
